Austin was born three months early, weighing only two pounds. He spent the first three years of his life in the neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Most of that time, he was on a ventilator which helped him breathe. His brain hemorrhaged and he developed hydrocephalus. He has a shunt in his head. Austin recently had surgery on both legs and is now in a body cast from toes to waist. Doctors hope that this surgery will enable Austin to walk without a walker.
