Austin was diagnosed
with a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia at seven weeks
of age. He has undergone numerous surgeries and has been hospitalized
over twenty times in his short life. There is no cure or medical
"fix" for this disease. It has many complications that
go along with it. The main one is cholangitis. This is an infection
that gets into the liver and must be treated with IV antibiotics.
Austin has had this over a dozen times. He has had three infusiports,
so he can take his antibiotics at home when needed and can also
have his blood work done through it. He is a brave little boy.
Sometime in the future, he will need a liver transplant.
Until then, we will trust in God to keep his hand upon him and help
him stay strong. He is an inspiration to many who meet him and most
of all, to me.
