One fourth of Becky's
heart is missing. Since birth she has had 6 open heart surgeries.
During the last one (1996), Becky had four heart attacks and wasn't
expected to live. She was in a coma for over a month. Doctors said
she would never be normal or walk again. She did eventually go home,
though she was not able to even sit up on her own. But within a
month Becky was walking! Six months later, she had a mild stroke
and a huge inoperable clot was found in her heart.
Today Becky is a loving, bright child; but her activity
level is limited. She tires very easily and is frequently cyanotic
(turns blue). She was fortunate enough to have a "non-invasive
surgery" in November of 2001 which greatly improved her oxygen
levels, but she still must pace herself to have the energy to do
anything.
