Finding Light Behind the Clouds

EXCERPTS FROM THE BOOK:

Date to Remember

My birthday is close to Christmas, so people often forget about it. I’ve considered celebrating my half birthday instead, in the middle of summer. Or I could celebrate monthly birthdays like kids often do. Just the other day, my grandson proudly announced, "I’m six and a half years old! But most people celebrate only one birthday each year. In case you’re interested, mine is January 2.

I have a friend who often doesn't receive birthday gifts from me. I miss her special day nearly every year. She's so humble that she never reminds me, and she loves me in spite of my forgetfulness. She's unselfish and noble. I admire her, but I'm not at all like her. That's why I'm telling you now, in advance, to mark my birthday on your calendar. It's JANUARY 2. Write it in big, red letters so it’s easy to read. And highlight it with a yellow marker so you can't miss it. Also, make a note to purchase a lavish gift in honor of the occasion. (I considered registering at some expensive stores, but I decided that would be tacky.)

If you think you might not remember this special day (JANUARY 2), I could send you a daily email to let you know the exact number of shopping days left till JANUARY 2.

Even if you do forget the date, (Did I mention it's JANUARY 2?) that’s okay. I don't mind receiving gifts late. In fact, I rarely celebrate my birthday only on JANUARY 2. I prefer to party the entire week. In fact, I love to party, and I’m happy to make it through another year; so why not celebrate all month long?

I used to think I had no talents; but I've discovered that I really do. My talents are partying, making merry, having fun, and receiving nice gifts each year on JANUARY 2. These talents are very important to society. Generous people like YOU need people like ME in their lives so they have someone to give all those extravagant gifts to (on JANUARY 2, especially).

I love getting gifts, even if they’re from strangers or enemies. Hey, if they're willing to give, I'm willing to receive!
