Emery was born prematurely with abnormal
lungs. He spent a lot of time on a ventilator, which damaged his
lungs even more. Many times doctors thought he would not survive.
He received transplanted lungs on January 8, 2006.
Unfortunately, complications followed, with a
type of cancer caused by his anti-rejection medications. Yet, once
again, little Emery beat the odds! He went into remission in
August, 2006.
Emery is developmentally delayed because of all
he's been through. He does not walk or speak and he uses a
feeding tube. He's a happy toddler who loves to play outside
and be with his big sisters, but he continues to struggle with day
to day transplant complications like respiratory issues.
With lung transplant life expectancy being low,
Emery's family strives to give him every experience possible for a
toddler. Each day is new and exciting , and truly a miracle.
