I had tummy problems in December and mommy took me to Silver Cross
Hospital. They thought it was my appendix, but it wasn't. My tummy
still hurt, so I went to Hope Christ Hospital and they did more
testing. My hemoglobin kept dropping and I became anemic. It made me
tired, pale, and irritable.
I was sent home in December without knowing what was wrong.
Christmas came and went and I still went to have lab testing done to
watch my hemoglobin. Then in early January, I went to a doctor
called a hemotologist. He found some very abnormal cells in my
blood. I had to have a bone marrow test, which was not fun. Then
they told me that I had Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia -- ALL.
They put me in the hospital and started chemotherapy. That is a
treatment with drugs that will kill all the cancer cells in my body.
I had surgery to put in a central line catheter. This is a line in a
major vein near my heart, which the doctors and nurses use to give
me medicine through. They can draw blood from it also. They
don't have to poke me so much with this port.
Here's a picture of me during my seventh week at the
hospital, with my big sister Sol:

Sometimes the chemo makes me very sick because it kills the good
cells along with the bad cells. When I left the hospital and went
home, I could take the drugs by mouth. I have to swallow 7
pills a day; and for some of them, I have to wake up in the middle
of the night.
I will need chemotherapy for a little more than 3 years. During this
time, I have to be very careful about being around other children. I
have low immunity and my body doesn't fight off germs very well; so
I can get sick very easily.
It's going to be a long road for me,
but I will get through it with my
family and friends.
