Due to brain damage, Julianna was born  blind. She can see extreme changes of light but no shapes. She also has central nervous system damage and she cannot roll over or sit up alone.  She has extreme scoliosis, microcephaly (small brain) and Leigh's disease which requires that she be fed through a tube.

Julianna depends upon her parents for all movement, as she cannot crawl or walk.  She has no motor control, though she can hold, for short periods, items that are placed in her hands.  She doesn't talk, but she's learning sign language.  Her abilities are like those of a four month old baby.
