Lawson was diagnosed with GERD before he even went home from the
hospital after his birth. He vomited everything he was fed. His
parents fed him small amounts every few hours and he slept sitting
up in his car seat. Then at four months of age, he was diagnosed
with reactive airway disease and began breathing treatments twice
a day.
At six months old, Lawson had his first hypoglycemic episode. He
was very lethargic and wouldn't wake up. He was unresponsive even
to needle pokes. His blood sugar level was 22.
Lawson has had three surgeries. Because of the severe acid reflux,
he had a Nissen Fundoplication in January 2005. At that time, they
also placed a Mickey Button (feeding tube) in his stomach. This
is how Lawson gets most of his nutrition.
Lawson receives three types of therapy, he doesn't sleep well (is
up 6-7 times a night) and he has bad headaches.
