Robert has a rare muscular dystrophy and a seizure disorder,
in addition to heat intolerance and a progressive mitochondrial
defect. No cure exists for his condition, but he is on
multiple medications to help improve his quality of life.
Due to his muscle weakness and fatigue, tremors, severe
allergies, and other issues, Robert is home schooled. He uses
an electric wheelchair if he needs to go any distance, and he wears
a cooling vest when he goes outside in summer.
Robert's mom describes him as a sweet, funny, active, and loving
boy. She jokes that it worries her because he's SO good!
Robert, whose sister Jamie also has Mitochondrial Myopathy,
enjoys swimming, reading, video games, and his tiny Yorkie
dog, Bella, who loves to play with him. His room is decorated
in SpongeBob decor.
